Diggle B Band was formed over ten years ago, combining both experienced players and some relative novices who had emerged from the Trainer Band. Over the years, the Band has grown and now boasts a virtually full complement of players drawn largely from Village residents but with some friends from outside the village to swell the ranks. Ages vary widely but the standard of playing is generally good reflecting the level of expertise in the main Band. The Band has improved tremendously in recent times and, under the baton of Dave Ship, further improvement is anticipated. Although they do not currently contest apart from Whit Fraiday, one day in the not too distant future could see them competing against their peers. The B Band sees itself very much as the village band and over the years they have supported village events such as the School Fete, Christmas Lights ceremony and Harvest Festival. However of late they have become a popular choice for concerts in Diggle Village, other Saddleworth villages and even providing a marching band further afield.
The Band rehearses on a Friday evening from 7.30 to 9.30 and on Wednesday evening at the same time there is a more informal “blow”. New members are always welcome as it is the Band’s philosophy to encourage the development of inexperienced players, of any age, even if they are often lost to bands elsewhere!

Manchester Day Parade
Manchester Day was created in 2010 and is now a spectacular addition to the city’s annual calendar of events. Conceived with the ambition of celebrating the creativity and diversity synonymous with Manchester, it is a great opportunity for communities to celebrate individual and collective pride in their city as well as to portray the stories of what makes them feel uniquely Mancunian in a highly visual way.
